‘Criminal Minds’ season 11, episode 3 review: Is Tara’s engagement on the rocks?
Last week’s episode of “Criminal Minds” season 11 was all about the case of the week, and while we love these episodes because they give fans a chance to just jump into this show without missing a beat, we’ve been hoping to learn a bit more about Aisha Tyler’s new character of Tara. We are going into the third episode now and we don’t really know a lot about her. Is the show a little gun-shy jumping into her personal life after Jennifer Love Hewitt had so much back story and even a main storyline about her niece getting kidnapped only to leave the show?
Tonight’s “Criminal Minds” episode brought us a case of the week that was all about marriage, but not in the happy way that marriages are normally supposed to be. The brides to be are turning up dead during their bachelorette parties, which is a very disturbing and sad concept on what is supposed to be a brand new and exciting chapter of their lives. The team was originally looking for jilted, angry men, but it turned out to be a woman who is having a delusional relationship in her head with a man named Ryan that tells her to kill these women. When the unsubs obsession asks her sister to marry him instead of her, the target changes from random brides to her sister.
As for any background story for Dr. Tara, there is a man in her life named Douglas (her fiance) that keeps calling her, but she is ignoring his calls. Morgan asks Tara why she isn’t wearing her engagement ring after noticing the indentation of a removed ring on her finger, but she doesn’t get to far into her problems with her fiance, just that the relationship has it’s challenges. She later puts her ring back on, but says that the job makes things complicated for them somtimes. There was a fun moment on the plane when the team teased Morgan about getting married – something we would love to see happen!
It was nice to get a bit more of a look at Tara tonight as well as a really interesting case of the week. We are a sucker for anything to do with weddings (really we are just a sucker for love), so this was an interesting way to incorporate weddings and crime. Episode grade: B

Horrible episode!! Honestly couldn’t wait for it to be over and I’ve been a loyal fan from day one. The acting was terrible and Tara brings nothing new to the show…and her hair is horrible. Bring JJ back and better writers!

Very disappointing episode. Once again it was too much the unsub show and not enough of the team and profiling. I don’t know why they don’t save money by not hiring known guest stars and instead making it about the profiling which should be the heart of the show. We watch for the team and we want to see them work out the crimes, not spend most of the episodes watching the unsub. This episode had poor directing, poor guest cast and poor writing. Aisha Tyler’s character is OK but seems superfluous as the skills she has been bringing to the table are those that Reid already has so nothing new there and it is slightly annoying when she says or does something that Reid should have, The end scene on the plane was fun and I am still enjoying the break away from JJ but that is about all you can say this week.

I wouldn’t say disappointing episode because I enjoyed it. I don’t like Tara much, I just can’t stand!! her hair, it’s just plain ugly, every time she shows up I think that. But yes she does seem superfluous even though she did figure out first the unsub was a woman but Reid was just about to say just that. I personally can’t wait for J.J. to come back but Tara better get darker quickly if not she is going to get redundant, we need a dark person for the team not some wishy-washy mental health clinician. Still love the show though, pleasantly amaze it lasted this long. Thank you.
