‘Arrow’ season 4 premiere reaction: Show boss on that particularly grave flash-forward

Arrow -Arrow” managed to give quite a bit away in terms of the story of the season 4 premiere before the episode even aired on Wednesday, but apparently there was one thing left under wraps (thankfully) until we got a chance to see the show: The scene with Oliver Queen and Barry Allen at a mystery grave.

At the moment, these are clearly the only two characters confirmed to make it this far, though judging from the fact that Barry missed the funeral and wanted to be there, it is probably someone from the Arrow-verse that he knew. Who could it be? We’re probably the most worried right now about either John Diggle (a completely original character to the show) or Captain Lance, who seems to be working with Damien Darhk unbeknownst to how dangerous he truly is. Could it be Felicity? Sure, but given Barry’s history with her we imagine that he would be even more broken up than he is.

One thing that we can tell you is that this is no tease for something that can be changed. As executive producer Marc Guggenheim tells TVLine, “it’s not a fake-out.” In addition, fellow EP Wendy Mericle makes it clear that this may not be someone who can just be thrown back into the Lazarus Pit and saved:

“We want to bring stakes back to the show, and so, we’ll be finding a way to handle the Lazarus Pit… in a new, inventive way that I can’t reveal.”

Well, we’re going to be pleased so long as there’s no more logical loophole created to bring them back. The fact that Sara Lance now seems to have cheated death once and been revived from it another time really should put an end to most of the physical and metaphorical revivals.
