Ratings: ‘The Flash’ starts solid; ‘The Muppets,’ ‘Scream Queens’ fall

Flash -

How did “The Flash” premiere on The CW? We’ll be honest here and admit for a minute or two after seeing it trend worldwide on Twitter last night, we started to think that maybe the show actually improved on its series premiere rating … though we’re not sure why we thought that was possible given that it rarely happens on network TV.

In the end, it didn’t happen here, either. The premiere episode drew a still-solid 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is sure to be the top rating for the network this entire week. We do think that they need to do something about “iZombie” airing after it, though; it is popular in its own right, but in getting a 0.7 for the premiere and shedding half of the “Flash” audience, there may be something else out there who can better wrangle this viewership.

Probably the big surprise to us over the past couple of weeks is the complete decline of “The Muppets” a show we really enjoy that is starting to become destined ed for “cult classic” status. Its 1.6 rating was behind even “Fresh Off the Boat” (1.8), and it is getting close to shedding half of what the show originally premiered with (2.9). It’s a shame, because we really enjoy it.

Other new shows elsewhere continued their decline. “Limitless” dropped to a 1.7, which is still pretty close to its premiere rating so not bad. The same cannot be said for “Scream Queens” (1.1), which started low and has slid ever sense. (Was there too much hype for this show?) Without a decent lead-in, “Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris” (1.3) took a big tumble. Tuesday night, only a few weeks into the season, is starting to look pretty terrible for major networks in terms of live viewing.
