‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 3, episode 2 reaction: What Simmons’ return means for her and Fitz

Simmons -At the end of Tuesday night’s new episode of Marvel’s “Agents of SHIELD,” we were admittedly not surprised to see that Jemma Simmons has officially made it back to planet Earth! There was only so long that the show could justify having one of its main characters separated from the rest of the group, and to us it feels like the larger question was always meant to be more in the vein of how someone like her can recover from this sort of trauma and isolation. She spent months on this world, and while she has been found, the results of what happened there will remain with her.

Over the coming weeks, the character’s PTSD is going to be an ongoing storyline, and as Elizabeth Henstridge tells Entertainment Weekly in a new interview, this will cause her to emphasize being close to Fitz more than ever:

“I think she’ll be leaning on him even more. The first word she says when she comes back is Fitz. All she wants to do is be close to him. She has a nightmare and he’s by her bedside. She crawls over and then can fall asleep because she’s close to him. It’s so far away from being romantic at the moment. He’s just there for pure comfort.”

Make no mistake that we do feel like this is yet another reason for the relationship to eventually turn romantic, given that she knows just how much he cares for her and wants to keep her safe. We feel like the part of this that may involve how many of the other members of the team were willing to move on rather than continue the hunt for her.
