‘Homeland’ season 5, episode 2 spoilers: How much has Saul changed?
On Sunday night’s season 5 premiere of “Homeland,” one thing was by our money very clear as a significant change: The relationship between Carrie and Saul. The two of them were not on even close to the best terms. They were not speaking to one another, and Carrie seems to still feel a great deal of betrayal and hurt over how everything ended at the end of the first season.
So where are we going to see this relationship progress from here? We have to imagine that the two parties are not going to suddenly make up, but the one bit of hope that their relationship may have is that from Saul’s vantage point, he will not hold so great of a grudge over not getting to come back as Director. In speaking on this subject to TVLine, showrunner Alex Gansa makes it clear that Saul will be in many ways preoccupied by his work and his present status to focus too much on his anger towards Carrie:
“Two years have gone by. I think he’s put that behind him. Saul has a very senior job at the agency. He’s the European division chief. He’s got plenty of responsibility. And he’s continuing to do the work that he’s always done, and in the process becoming much more of a company man then when we first introduced him.”
The real test for these two is going to be seeing more of what happens when the two start to get out there once again in the field and to a certain degree reliant on another another; are they going to be able to look past what transpired?
