‘Downton Abbey’ season 6, episode 3: Jim Carter jokes about Carson’s post-wedding film future
Sunday night’s new episode of “Downton Abbey” is going to be a romantic occasion really like no other. Sure, we’ve seen characters marry before, but isn’t it a little bit different when you are talking about someone like Mr. Carson? He is someone who has been around from the beginning, and also has a reputation for being somewhat stern and cold. Opening up his heart has never been anywhere near the top of the priority list.
So on Sunday, marrying Mrs. Hughes will be the show’s version of the sky opening up so that the angels can start to sing hallelujah. It’s finally happening! Given that this is just episode 3 in an eight-part series (plus a Christmas Special), though, there are further stories to tell … and this could be expanded further if the rumors about a feature film come true.
If you are wondering just what Carson’s storyline for the movie could be, we feel like Jim’s got a great suggestion! (Okay, not really.) Speaking to the Daily Mirror in a recent interview, he had some fun with the following quote:
“For the film I think Mr. Carson should invent pole dancing really … I think the public are ready for that. We would have Mrs. Hughes and Mrs. Patmore of course, and Lady Cora would shake a leg and I think it’d be very popular.”
The reason why it is still so easy to joke about movie storylines is because the odds of one happening are, at least from our vantage point, still fairly low. For example, you have the business of trying to round up all of the cast once again, and then you have to add to that doing what you can create a story that makes it worthwhile. If it is too far in the future, will the characters all even be realistically alive?
