‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 3 spoilers: Ming-Na Wen teases May’s complicated story arc

May -We did not see Agent May in the “Agents of SHIELD” season 3 premiere, with the main reason being that she was taking some rare vacation time while Coulson, Daisy Johnson, and some other members of the team tackled everything from tracking down Inhumans to learning just what happened to Simmons at the end of season 2 with the monolith.

For all Ming-Na Wen fans, have no fear: She’s going to be back in a big way on Tuesday; she explains to Entertainment Weekly some of what you can expect to see:

“You will see May in the second episode, you just don’t know why she’s there … She’s trying to figure [out the struggle between her personal and professional lives] and that’s why, in the first episode, no one’s really sure where her head’s at right now.”

Her personal relationship with Blair Underwood’s Andrew is at this point integral to the story, and as she tells the publication, bringing him “into the team is really vital for season 3 because the Inhumans are no longer the exception … They’re becoming more of the norm.” If things do not necessarily work out for the two personally, she is still looking at a reality where they still have to be in one another’s world, and that cannot be easy. May is the Cavalry and in many senses a complete badass, but she’s also a human being. This is something that the show has done a good job expanding on over the past half-season or so.
