‘Arrow’ season 4 spoilers: When will a twist come in the flashback story?

Arrow -When you look at much of what has been said so far about the fourth season of “Arrow,” the majority of the significant story threads have been covered. We’ve heard news about Oliver and Felicity, the tension between Oliver and Diggle, Thea’s rise to becoming Speedy, and also the Big Bad Damien Darhk entering the picture.

Still, little has been said about the flashbacks, and we don’t get the sense that this is just because they were less-than-amazing in season 3. The show has meticulously planned something out for the fourth season involving Shadowspire and Baron Reiter, and it is something we’re going to learn a thing or two more about as early as the season premiere. According to a TVLine, there is a major twist coming to the flashback story in the premiere, one that will set the pace for everything that happens to Oliver during his latest “year in hell.” That’s why we have not heard much about it.

The problem with the flashback stories for the most part is that these consistently suffer from feeling somewhat like a device to fill up time in the episode, or to continue a trend that is no longer effective. They worked in the first two seasons, and now the series has to figure out a way to make the story matter again to the present, while also justifying why Oliver has not shared much of the information about what happened to him to others in his life.

We’re not going to be one of those cynical “Arrow” people who assume that season 4 will go down the tubes just because there was something in season 3 that we didn’t care for. We’re still optimistic about the future, and intrigued to see what the show does. We’ll have some further news on that soon enough. Stay tuned!
