ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 5, episode 2 review: Who leaked the photos of Olivia and Fitz?

Scandal -How did Olivia Pope handle the scrutiny of Sally Langston’s shocker? At the end of “Scandal” last week, the former Vice-President made a move in order to reveal Fitz’s affair to the public, and throughout this entire hour, we saw all hands on deck and a total attempt at damage control. Was there any way to undo what was out there? Was this the early part of season 3 all over again?

As it turns out, the answer is a little more complicated. First, let’s get to revealing who was responsible for the photos getting out there in the first place: Elizabeth North. She was one of the people we predicted could be behind it, and this was in her mind a way to presumably get rid of Olivia and her influence. She also had the tools to make this happen; she worked for Mellie previously, and would have an understanding of how to set her up to look like the guilty party.

Now, let’s get back to Olivia, who seems to be adopting a new and very important change of strategy: No more running. After trying to do this and bury herself in a new case with OPA, she eventually realized that maybe this wasn’t the right course of action. Even though Fitz was more than willing to hide the relationship, deny it, and even invite Mellie back into the White House, she decided to make the game-changing admission. We could have had a season 3 situation all over again, but she decided against it.

This was a huge moment for the show. It is finally started to emerge from the shadows, whether you are talking about Olivia owning this or starting to get the sense that Quinn is ready to admit who she is. This opens the floodgates for so much more drama, and a different show than we have ever seen before. Grade: A-.
