ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 5, episode 3 preview: Olivia, Fitz face further trouble in ‘Paris is Burning’

ScandalFor the first time on “Scandal” Thursday night, we started to see just how Olivia and Fitz would handle the fact that there were some fairly-intimate photos of them released to the public, and at first, it seemed like their respective strategies differed: While Kerry Washington’s character chose to flee and bury herself in handling another case, Fitz languished in the White House while Susan, Elizabeth, and others questioned some of his motives.

Based on the title for the next new episode in “Paris is Burning,” we don’t exactly think that you have to work too hard in order to figure out that things are not going particularly well for for Olivia and Fitz. The synopsis below is further proof of that:

“Olivia and Fitz face some very big consequences and Mellie brings in an old friend to make sure she gets her way. Meanwhile, Abby shows Olivia she is fully capable of handling working at the White House.”

Now, let’s get to the real meat of the story: What happens next? In the promo that aired after Thursday’s episode, Mellie makes it clear that she wants to completely destroy Olivia now by any means necessary. It is not so much for the reason you would think, though; she is not interested at all in the marriage side of things. She knew that having a marriage perceived as weak is bad news in the political world, and Olivia’s admission makes it all the harder for her to earn favor from the public. It’s a pretty sad perception, but that is just the way the world is.
