‘Downton Abbey’ season 6, episode 3 spoilers: The big wedding you’ve been waiting for!
Even though “Downton Abbey” spent years on the whole Mr. Green murder storyline, we’ve come to expect from them that when they marry people off, they really do not mess around with it. (Warning: Some spoilers ahead for American readers.)
The photo above is one of several images released by production company Carnival Films of the upcoming occasion, which is going to see Mr. Carson and Mrs. Hughes tie the knot after becoming engaged at the end of last season. It’s a chance for them to enjoy a small, personal affair, and one that actually gets them to dress up in something that is not their typical attire. During this past installment there was great debate over whether or not they should have their reception in the Earl’s Great Hall, but this was something that Mrs. Hughes in particular was particularly reluctant to take part in.
While the additional promo below (via the Daily Mail) does not make much of an effort to further extend the coverage of the wedding, it does give you a few important teases when it comes to Lady Mary, Baxter, and a variety of other important figures. Just because we are getting a wedding, one that will hopefully be given to us onscreen this time, does not mean the wheels will stop for many of the other character. All of them do have issues, whether romantically or professionally, that they are still dealing with.
Even in a sense Carson and Mrs. Hughes have to start thinking more about their long-term future, given that this is not the era of having multiple underbulters and cooks and chauffeurs and a variety of other jobs. Sooner or later Robert will have to cut back on the staff, and you have to wonder who will be the most vulnerable.
