ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 8 spoilers: Key story coming for Stana Katic’s Kate, Nathan Fillion’s Rick
If you feel sad over some recent developments on “Castle,” we should start first and foremost by saying that we understand. As much as we enjoyed elements of the “XX” / “XY” saga, it is hard to deny that things did come to a particularly distressing conclusion courtesy of Beckett deciding that she wanted to take time away from her marriage to focus on the task at hand. It went back on the notion to always be there for each other, and fell into the classic TV trap of “I’m doing this to protect you,” when it still feels fairly easy for the bad guys to figure out regardless that Rick is the love of Kate’s life.
Here is the good news: There will be many romantic moments still ahead for the Castle – Beckett characters; you saw in the promo for “PhDead” that they will continue to work together, and a little later this fall an installment entitled “Mr. & Mrs. Castle” is going to put the spotlight on their relationship in an entirely new way. Here is what co-showrunner Terence Paul Winter had to say on this subject to TVLine:
“It’s going to be a great episode … For the fans who right now are going, ‘What the heck and Terence and [fellow showrunner] Alexi [Hawley] doing?!,’ when they see that episode they’ll understand and see what we’re going for.”
We do subscribe to the belief that sometimes it is worth seeing a story through before judging it completely, but here’s the issue that the “Castle” team could run into: One of the reasons we personally have more flexibility to do this is because it is our job to do so. We’re not sure we would be so patient and willing otherwise, and there are so many other options for viewers to check out.
With that, they need to find a way to instill hope in this particular love story, and preferably sooner rather than later to go along with it.

Not sure about the future direction of this show….
Honestly.. when I was watching entire episodes before Season 7…
it always urged(?) me to watch the episodes again when the time comes…
But since season 7…. those episodes in season 7 never attracted my attention….
The way XX/XY panned out.. I think it’s time to admit(sadly) that show is on its final run..

Like I said I have no comfortable expectation for the future. Like they said they know that the show is built on the Caskett romance but they do not understand that if they destroy the romance they destroy the show. What I want now is a spoiler from ABC that tells me the specific episode when Caskett will get back together and promise me that there will be no more break ups. I want this from ABC and not show runners that, in effect, tell you one thing and then do something totally contrary.

wow, some of these so called “fans” are really strange. If you want to know what is going to happen and when..why bother to watch the show at all? This is a story guys. You have to follow all the twists and turns. They whine when there is something going on then whine when there is not enough . They want to see dozens of spoilers before they even see the episode! then complain that it wasn’t exciting enough! That’s why they are called “spoilers” because for most of us who try to avoid such nonesense the spoilers…spoil the surprise and takes away much of the excitement in a show! Wow what a bunch!

I agree completely. Any good story has to have a conflict. Without a good conflict, the characters are in stasis. Absolutely nothing would be happening except “get the call, solve the case, and have a cute scene in the loft at the end.” We SHOULD be feeling anxious. That’s what makes it all worthwhile. I, for one, will be watching because this new storyline has introduced a whole new level of conflict that the show MUST HAVE in order to grow. If anything is doing damage right now, it’s not Beckett’s decision. It’s the way-over-the-top and sometimes downright offensive comments directed at the writers. I am stunned that almost none of the commenters or even the so-called reviewers have mentioned the stellar acting and directing of the first two episodes. Did anyone even notice that? The shooting in the precinct took three days to film, which I found amazing. (This factoid courtesy of a tweet by one of the sound techs on the show.) You know, folks, just because you don’t like something doesn’t automatically make it bad. For my part, bring on Castle 8×03! I’ll be in the audience, and I hope many of you will be joining me.

Couldn’t agree more! Sure there are some things I would do differently, but I didn’t write the show. If some of these whiners want to get exactly what they want, may I make a suggestion?
Write a story yourself, stand in front of a mirror and then you not only get what you want but you can play all the parts!!! What fun!!
As for me, I am no writer as you can see!! So I let those who can, weave a storyline for me while I enjoy watching talented performers do their stuff and take me along on the journey!
And as you noted JSE the stellar acting and directing in the first two episodes was terrific! And the shootout was amazing!! Long hours of hard work done by a very dedicated and talented group of experts. For which unfortunately they are maligned by so called “fans”.
As my dear old granny used to say “they are more to be pitied then laughed at”

It bothers me when they say that Mr & Mrs Castle is going to put the spotlight on their relationship in an entirely new way. So far the “new way” that the show runners are going is tending to focus on breaking up their marriage and alienating fans. They say that fans should see the story line all the way through before judging it. Do they realize that at the present rate there will be no one that will see the story line all the way through. There is no assurance that if things actually do improve by 8×08 that there will be no break up when the show resumes in February. They appear to be building the show on breaking up and making up and breaking up and making up and breaking up and making ……. Sorry but I have no feeling of comfort in what may happen in future episodes. Without comfortable expectation for the future count me out.

I agree with the last few comments. Though I’m not too fond of what they are proposing is happening with Castle and Beckett so far, I do understand that none of us would pick up a book and bother reading it if we already knew the outcome. I think they are trying to put some suspense in the story line. Lets give it time. I’ll be watching.
