TV quick hits: A ‘Serial’ TV show, ‘Twin Peaks’ casting news, and a ‘Jessica Jones’ promo

Jessica Jones

Let’s start off this latest edition of TV Quick Hits by discussing what has been one of our favorite topics as of late: How much TV is seemingly now relying on either remakes, revivals, or adapting things that first existed elsewhere.

With that, of course there is a “Serial” TV show in development. The prospective series, per Deadline, comes from super-producers Chris Miller and Phil Lord (“The Last Man on Earth”), and would apparently follow a podcast doing a similar true-crime story to “Serial.” In other words, you are doing a show based on a podcast about true crime ABOUT a podcast doing true crime. Makes perfect sense. Then again, we cannot be too hard on them: Doing straight true-crime is far more present on television than in podcasts, so this is a chance to at least try to differentiate it.

For those wondering, host Sarah Koenig is involved. She and her co-producer Julie Snyder are both executive producers here.

As for some other news…

Twin Peaks” casting news – Also according to Deadline, former “Prison Break” / “Cult” star Robert Knepper has joined the Showtime continuation in a recurring role … and that’s it. David Lynch has made finding scoop on this show an impossibility. Knepper is fantastic, and that is reason enough to be excited.

Marvel strikes again – This time, it’s the latest promo for Netflix’s upcoming “Jessica Jones” project. They are diving into the Marvel business even more than they did with “Daredevil” by taking a little-known character (at least for mainstream comic fans) and then throwing her into the spotlight.

We do wonder if the promos out there are not giving you enough of her private-eye angle, but at the same time, they’re pretty badass.
