‘Empire’ season 2, episode 2 preview: ‘Without a Country’ and beyond
The premiere of “Empire” last week ended with Cookie Lyon in a most unfortunate position: Realizing that she was not going to get what she wanted with the company. Empire Entertainment is no doubt valuable, but the truth here remains that without Lucious, it’s just not the same. He is the face and the name of the brand, and responsible for most of its clout.
You knew that he would be getting out of prison soon enough, and the majority of the trailer below (which aired after the premiere) features him without the trademark orange jumpsuit. He’s back to doing what he does best, which involves him making huge proclamations about the success of the company while intimidating the heck out of some in the process. This is not a man interested in changing much when it comes to how he operates.
Of course, with Lucious’ exit from prison comes an even angrier Cookie. We see in the promo that she is intent on starting her own label; maybe that will happen, or maybe it won’t. Either way, one of the fun things that you can expect to see from her is a fantastic sequence of events that involves her completely ruining a perfectly good dinner. Don’t ever change, Cookie.
Aside from these two, the trailer also has album leaks, romance, and plenty of other developments. “Empire” just would not be “Empire” unless there were a million or so things going on at all times.
