ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 8, episode 2 review: Is Beckett leaving Castle?
One episode into the Terence Paul Winter – Alexi Hawley chapter of “Castle” last week, we were somewhat unsure as to whether or not the tone was working.
Now that we’ve seen “XX,” we are feeling much more strongly about the creator’s vision … however hard that may be. This was a pretty fantastic hour that worked hard to tie together many important elements of the show’s past, and also said farewell to someone who has been a huge part of Kate’s mythology: Bracken. The disgraced Senator was killed in prison as a part of a lengthy conspiracy spot, one that spanned multiple different villains and even Kate’s time in Washington.
As a matter of fact, right when we started to think that the case was resolved, we learned that it seemed like one of Beckett’s former higher-ups in Allison Hyde was involved. Then, it turned out that she was seemingly gone, making us think that all of this could be over … or was it? Beckett knew that the real culprit behind everything was still out there, and she has to make it her mission now to figure out where it is. Her determination is something that we admire, but it also caused one of the biggest shockers of the fall season so far.
The story concluded with Beckett leaving Castle for the time being to pursue what or who is out there, knowing that this could cause a rift between them and leave him heartbroken. Are they splitting? We’re not saying that; she is instead trying to protect him, but doing it in a way that is only going to be hurtful. When are these people going to learn they are actually better together?
We understand that some out there may be frustrated with the end, but we do feel like this is a strong story the new showrunners are telling still, and one worth following. Also, we’ve seen enough teasers over time to know that somehow, Rick and Kate are going to find a way to keep working together. So while “XX” and this story may be a risk, we at least admire the effort to shake things up this deep into a run.

Kate dindt only leave him and his family…she left her team at the presinct…..she is a captain…..what about her carrear?

I like the separation of C&B. The romance was no longer coming across. It was embarrassing to watch, and that kiss was in the hangar, ugh.
The only other redeeming value is that SK still brings it.
The direction and editing was bad and I could actually detect Stana trying to rise above the material.
Castle and that cartoon, pop-up gun was just stupid. Bond, James Bond– NOT.
Have TPTB taken a look at Agent Bond lately, or even in the past? I’ve seen James Bond and he ain’t no James Bond. Please, please don’t return Nathan to the cartoon character he has played these last few years. What moron thought that Castle PI would work? It Ain’t, period.
Just lose Alexis, she brings nothing to the party except irritation. Why does she look like cupid past his prime? Shouldn’t she be with her mates at a throw down. But I guess she would bore them too. Shoehorning Molly in is a waste of time. Give it a rest. Not working. The show felt like a disconnection, broken, shattered.
Somewhere Marlowe is crying in his soup. Having to watch his creation go up in flames.
My advise, Run, Stana, RUN. You are better than this. Take that Jon with you. Okay, dude.

I can see that the powers that be must realize this will be the final season of Castle. I can also see that I have probably watched my last episodes. If the new show runners thought they would create intrigue or suspense, they were WRONG! All they did was took one of my top two TV shows and dropped it to the bottom of my viewing list. I mean, seriously? Has Beckett learned nothing over 7 seasons? Let’s just rehash and repeate the mistakes of the past? Seriously? I think I can pinpoint now the exact moment when Castle “jumped the shark.” The last 5 minutes of 8×02.

Bad move. There are so many other shows to watch… And so little time.
Castle just fell from the top of my list to the bottom… and is in serious jeopardy of being dropped entirely.

I think this is game set and match finito they’ve crossed the line her character has shot Castle down to many times he’d look a wimp if he took her back!

I think Fillion wants to move on. This will be the last season. I suggest a spinoff with secondary characters.

No, it is a bad story line. I will stop watching until this silliness is resolved.

i’m done. it’s the same formula for all their season premier.
it’s always “no time to explain” or “i couldn’t tell you” and always a “puppet-master villain” who only appears for 10mins total throughout the season.
if the good-side knows something that he/she will die before telling it to the whole team.
if the bad-side gets caught, it’s always “i’d be dead anyway when i’m caught so let me just shoot the good guys and die before telling any of you guys the truth” attitude.
also, the premiere is ALWAYS 2ep long and NOTHING WILL HAPPEN FOR ANOTHER 19 EPISODES. then a plot twist for the finale and then a cliffhanger.
REPEAT FOR NEXT SEASON.
what a waste of my time. all the best.

What happened to her statement at the end of season 3 (?) “I just want you”? Kate seems to be selfishly clinging to her “it’s my life philosophy” instead of looking at “us”. Not happy with the end at all – other than that it was a fabulous episode.

No I don’t like this new storyline. I like the core group of players solving crimes. This stupid idea that there always has to be a underlying bad guy is stupid. People have busy lives it is nice watching a good show that basically is over at the end of each hour!

This is must be what Doyle from 6×05 Time Will Tell was referring to when he said he couldn’t believe that they ended up together even after she…. and he didn’t finish his sentence…??
Disappointed

I can’t deny i think the writers kicked Castle in the nuts, made a mockery of “always” and insulted a lot of viewers. great acting by Stana but if I wanted to go back to seasons 1,2 and 3 I could watch re runs ! Mixing it up and bringing in new characters was great but week two ending ! that will get drawn out getting them back on solid ground was not best direction in my view and for me after 7 years of great escapism this could possibly be the wrong sort of show stopper ? I really hope I am wrong
