We know that in some ways “The Good Wife” season 7 is about rebirth for Alicia Florrick, given that the character is getting a chance to start over with a new legal path, and hopefully get some good people in her life. It is a time of great change for her, and the fact that her husband Peter is pursuing yet another higher calling more than likely puts things into a greater state of flux.
So what may be another surprise? The fact that it is looking more and more like one of Alicia’s biggest struggles could be an internal one. We’ve certainly seen her drink plenty over the course of the series, and speaking on “CBS This Morning” recently, she suggested that this could turn into a serious problem for her as she starts to use it as a crutch for what she is going through emotionally:
“I think Alicia might have a drinking problem … She’s lonely, and I think wine is numbing her out a little bit … I think that’s something we might address in Season 7.”
Alicia’s drinking could make for a compelling storyline, though much of our enjoyment of it could ultimately depend on both where it ends and how long it takes us to get there. What does rock bottom look like for her? Regardless of what happens, we are hoping that she finds a way to recover and have some big career moment before the story ends. With the future beyond season 7 uncertain, there may not be much time.
