‘The Bastard Executioner’ episode 4 preview: Threats, prophecies, and more await Wilkin

TBX Pilot 1Through three episodes, “The Bastard Executioner” has established itself as a show like no other. While there may be some other series out there right now that contain some of its elements (the Middle Ages, politics, or mysticism), few combine them together like this and then add a serious coat of blood. This show has improved through its first three episodes, and we feel like the further we go into season 1, the more we are going to start to see the pieces align.

One of the most intriguing parts of Tuesday night’s new episode is going to be the continued back-and-forth between Wilkin Brattle and Milus Corbett, one of the powers-that-be within Ventrishire that will challenge him and keep him from the vengeance he desperately seeks. Also, we are going to get a greater sense as to where Annora and potentially the Dark Mute fit into the story this time around.

We feel like at this point, one of the great struggles is going to be to keep someone like Milus around on the show in the long-term, knowing that he is someone who will be frequently targeted because of his actions. We do think there may be a comparison to be made here between him and Clay from “Sons of Anarchy,” a character who many felt would be killed off much earlier than he was. Given that Kurt Sutter continued to find great uses for this character even when he was knocking on death’s door, we imagine that something similar will happen here.

There is a tiny bit of new footage in the promo below that you may not have seen already, but for the most part FX still seems to be content mostly with reminding you how critics feel about the show. We’re not going to look a gift horse in the mouth, but we do wish that these were a little more story-focused.
