‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ season 3 premiere reaction: Are Jake and Amy now together?
At the end of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 2, Jake and Amy played the whole will-they-or-won’t-they game thanks to them finally kissing for the first time in a way that they actually meant it. That meant that on Sunday’s season 3 premiere, they actually had some important stuff to discuss.
Well, we’re not sure how much discussing that they actually did thanks to breaking every one of their “light and breezy” couple rules, but they did determine that rather than trying to play it cool or stay away from each other, they are going to go all-in on a romance. This is a move that may or may not work; it’s far too early to tell. It is reminiscent somewhat of Nick and Jess getting together on “New Girl,” and then the show splitting them up after it lost some of the characters’ spark. They have to find a way to make sure that Jake and Amy still remain Jake and Amy, but in a much more intertwined fashion.
Luckily, you’ve got Mike Schur and Dan Goor on this show as producers, and they have a tradition of making workplace romances work on TV.
The other highlights of the night included some of the following:
1. A funny but brief appearance from Bill Hader as the new Captain, who repeatedly suffered heart problems and then died. Seriously.
2. Dean Winters returning as the Vulture, who is going to be the new Captain now.
3. Captain Holt, meanwhile is off with Gina working PR, which hilariously brought us a lengthy debate over a pigeon mascot coupled with Gina saying that she is the “human version of the 100 emoji.” These two were hysterical tonight; we want them back in the 99 eventually, but this was the strongest part of the episode.
Ultimately, this was a half-hour so funny, it really felt like five minutes. Now the game is over for Jake and Amy, and we’re waiting to see what happens next.
