‘Once Upon a Time’ season 5, episode 2 spoilers: Story for Jennifer Morrison’s Emma to last all season

OUATTonight, “Once Upon a Time” brought you the story of the Dark Swan for the first time, and it proved itself to be a combination both of thoroughly entertaining and somewhat terrifying. There is something so interesting about watching someone go from being good to bad, even if it is someone who you intrinsically want to root for like Emma Swan.

We were worried going into the season that maybe the whole story of her descending into darkness was going to be short-lived. However, it feels now pretty fair to say that this is not going to be the case. This could be something that we have a chance to watch further morph and unfold over the course of the entire season, and not just in one half of it as we’ve seen with recent arcs as of late.

Speaking while at a recent screening for the premiere, episode, show co-creator Adam Horowitz made it clear (per The Hollywood Reporter) that one way or another, what Emma is going through at the moment is not going to be something that she is able to wash away at any point in the near future:

“The ramifications … are felt throughout the entire season … While a lot of this story in the first half we tend to wrap up in the midseason, there are bigger issues that are introduced as early as [the premiere] that will carry over for the whole season. … Emma’s journey is going to encompass the whole season.”

As for whether we are going to flashback to some of the space between the flash-forward (which featured a fully-transformed Dark Swan) and when the main characters arrived in Camelot, that is to be seen. One thing we do know for sure is that there are definitely a crazy batch of episodes ahead.
