‘Mistresses’ season 4 official; ABC renews drama for 14 new episodes

Mistresses -For all of those worried (us included) that “Mistresses” was going to end on a particularly shocking note, have no fear: ABC is still in the business of promoting the soapy drama.

Today, the network confirmed that not only have they ordered a fourth season, but that it will span 14 episodes rather than the typical 13. Our feeling is just that this gives them one more week to fill with new content during the summer.

For the most part, the ratings were far-from-great for the show during the summer, but at the same time, they were at least slightly better in the end than some other summer shows. New sci-fi entry “The Whispers” really failed to gain any ground with viewers, and “The Astronaut Wives Club” was always meant to be a one-year thing. One other thing that may have helped its chances is that thanks to a move to Vancouver, it is now much more affordable to make the show than it was previously in Los Angeles.

Clearly the show has some loose ends to tie up in between having Joss at gunpoint and April’s future with Marc, but it also has some other questions when it comes to Calista Raines. Will we see Jennifer Esposito again? at the minute, we’re not so sure; while she and Joss did end the season on a much happier note, we’re not sure that her friends will be particularly forgiving thanks to how willing she was to sell her out for the sake of her own survival.

For now, let’s just rejoice that we are getting the chance to find out.
