There is so much in the way of good news right now in the world of “Once Upon a Time,” but the scoop that we are perhaps the most excited for revolves around the fact that two of our longtime favorite characters are returning to the show: Mulan and Red. Rather than getting to have a billion or so new people taking part in this, we do think that there is so much more value in just fleshing-out the people that you already have.
Granted, not all of this is the show’s fault. Jamie Chung and Meghan Ory both have done other shows in the interim since their exit from the show, so it’s not like there are a billion hours in the day to schedule things out. The good news is that the show is not going to just act as though they were never gone at all. Based on what co-creator Adam Horowitz told TVLine in a new interview, you are going to see something in the way of backstory:
“We’re not planning to drop them back in the show with no explanation and just say, ‘Oh, they were over in the corner.’ We do want to give a taste of where Mulan has been and what she’s been up to and what she’s been going through. The same with Red.”
These backstories are going to go along with some exciting news in the present for both characters. While the series has remained somewhat coy on what Red’s particular tale is going to be, we know that Mulan is more than likely finally going to lave the love story that fans have been yearning for. Whether or not it is with Aurora or someone else, though, remains to be seen.
