‘Downton Abbey’ season 6: Apparently, the Duchess of Cambridge stayed a while!
Before we get too deep into this particular “Downton Abbey” story, it feels appropriate in this instance to start things off here with a little bit of context for the uninitiated. The title of this article is a reference to a visit to the show’s iconic set (not Highclere Castle, but rather where the servants film) earlier this year by none other than Kate Middleton a.k.a. the Duchess of Cambridge. Like many other Royals in Britain (which apparently includes Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth), Middleton is a fan of the series, and also understands the cultural impact of the series all over the world.
Apparently, the Duchess had so much fun being around the cast and crew on set that she had a hard time walking away from it. Speaking on the subject to E! News, Jim Carter (who plays Mr. Carson on the series) made it fairly clear just how long Middleton ended up sticking around:
“She’s a big fan of the show … I don’t think she’d been on a film set before, or a TV set, so she was intrigued by how different it looked on the screen and in reality. She overstayed. She stayed long. She was having such a good time.”
We should point out here that Carter is not making any sort of dig at the Duchess here by using the word “overstayed.” We think that he is using it to mean that she simply stayed longer than she first intended to; we have a hard time imagining that anyone was particularly sad to have a popular member of the Royal Family around set.
