Is there another scripted show out there (other than maybe “My Mother, the Car” we presume) where a car means as much as it does on “Supernatural“? The Impala has become in many ways iconic to the show and to the characters of Sam and Dean Winchester. It’s their mode of transportion, but it is also a vessel for their personality; it’s old-school, committed to the cause, and it’s never too flashy. In the end, it always gets the job done even when you don’t think that it will.
It seems about time that the car got more of a showcase, and this is what is going to happen on “Baby,” which is the fourth episode of the upcoming 11th season. Do you remember some of the chatter about there being a car-wash sequence this season? Well, that will be in this episode.
While this story may sound a little bit silly on the surface since the car isn’t really a person, star Jared Padalecki tells Entertainment Weekly that there is a lot of fun stuff that gets to be explored in this hour:
“It’s done in a very clever Supernatural way, mind you, but episode four is a very cool episode. It’s all about the Impala. We’ve had this third lead character for 10 seasons strong and, we’re not revealing a personality, but we see just how much a part of the Winchesters’ lives it is … You kind of see the Impala in work in all these scenes from seasons past where we haven’t necessarily know where it is or known how it got there. You see just how crucial a character it is.”
