‘American Horror Story Hotel’: Don’t expect Neil Patrick Harris to check in

AHSWhile Ryan Murphy does have a great tradition of bringing in actors from one season of “American Horror Story” onto another, the news today regarding Neil Patrick Harris making a return appearance is not encouraging.

While many guest stars from “Freak Show,” including Matt Bomer and Wes Bentley, are checking into “Hotel” with larger roles, Harris is not planning to turn up at all after having a particularly creepy role on the fourth season. Why is that? As he tells TVLine, he is simply too busy at the moment working hard on “Best Time Ever,” the new series that he is working on for NBC:

“It was a great honor for myself and for [husband] David [Burtka] to be players in Freak Show, but yeah, I’m busy with this show … I think the Hotel is booked, as they say. There’s no vacancy at the moment, but I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen.”

Of course, this does not rule out Neil from participating in future seasons of the show provided that he wants to, but that is strictly up to his availability moving forward. “Best Time Ever” had solid but unspectacular ratings in its first week, and it is still to be seen now whether or not airing after “The Voice” in week two will be a blessing or a curse. While we’ve come to know Harris as a consummate performer and entertainer, live television is still something that is an incredibly hard sell to the average viewer.
