“Once Upon a Time” continues to unleash some sort of new promotional material on us, and today, one of the newest examples of that came in the promotional art for season 5 that was shared on the show’s official Twitter.
Once again, we should stress that this is different than a official cast photo that ABC puts out; this is clearly just some promotional artwork that was created especially for social media, so you really shouldn’t put too much stock in it. That’s a good thing, since this clearly feels like something that was crafted for the deliberate purpose of just having something out there on the show. It feels very much almost like an exercise in Photoshop no matter where you look, primarily with the shots of Snow White, Charming (which looks for some reason incredibly tiny thanks to the perspective), a season 3 promo photo of Belle, and an old shot of Captain Hook.
Still, we do like the Dark Swan image, and that the show is embracing making the Emma character look as potentially-menacing as possible. Lana Parrilla’s had a great chance to revel in playing evil from time to time, and Jennifer Morrison could do the same this time.
Also, we feel like it is pretty clear from where they are placing her that ABC has a lot of stock in Merida being a big selling point, though we are not quite sure she will be. While we’re personally happy to see Amy Manson’s character in the cast as a Pixar fan, “Brave” is not one of the company’s most popular films; also, we don’t think Merida stands out in the way that Anna and Elsa from “Frozen” do.
The new season begins on Sunday, September 27, and we imagine that we will have more in the way of substantial promo material for the show soon enough.
