‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 3 spoilers: May’s crisis; trying to save Simmons

The third season of Marvel’s “Agents of SHIELD” is not going to be premiering this week thanks to a “Dancing with the Stars” special, but it will premiere on September 29 and attempt to resolve many of the big cliffhangers that have been established in between Skye becoming Daisy Johnson and the changes that have taken place over at Hydra.

However, it is starting to look like when it comes to Simmons, it may take a little bit of time before we start to understand everything about the very thing that swallowed her up in season 2. It is going to be an integral part of the story in the upcoming second episode of the season (airing October 6) entitled “Purpose in the Machine,” especially if you look at the ABC synopsis below:

“Fitz and the team enlist the aid of an Asgardian to unlock the secrets of the ancient monolith that swallowed Simmons, and Agent May is at a crossroads in her personal and professional life.”

You probably assumed that Blair Underwood would be back based on that synopsis, but we can verify for you here that he will be. The finale allowed you to see at least a slightly different side of Melinda, and that is something that may carry through to the earlier part of this season. How long does she want to be the Cavalry? What else is there out there for her? Purpose will be at least one thing that drives this character in the early going this season.
