Emmys 2015: Leonard Nimoy, Joan Rivers, Jan Hooks, more honored during In Memoriam
There are few parts of the Primetime Emmy Awards that are as emotional or as controversial as the In Memoriam portion, mostly because of the sole fact that there are always people who think that there are a couple of people who are forgotten about. Sometimes, it is difficult to really figure out where people who worked in several different mediums ultimately belonged.
It was hard to write down every important name that was mentioned during the segment on Fox tonight, but some of the names that we saw pass through tonight included Mike Nichols, B.B. King, Wes Craven, Stuart Scott, Harris Wittels, Joan Rivers, Jan Hooks, Dean Jones, Leonard Nimoy, and many more. It only felt appropriate that the night ended getting to see Nimoy saying “live long and prosper.” Perfect.
We’re sure that there are some other people over the course of the next few days that say that someone was excluded, but it in the end, we feel like the show handled this segment in the way it should be. We do think at times that there is a tendency for the Academy and other Academies to really complicate this, and add a whole lot more clutter to the proceedings than they really need to. This was fairly simple, and in this case, it was right. Hopefully, other awards shows take note and try to not make this into some huge production; you want to keep the focus on the people you are honoring and their work, and not any distraction to that in the end.
