‘Gotham’ season 2, episode 1 spoilers: Cameron Monaghan teases story for Jerome
The second season of “Gotham” is set to premiere now on Fox in a matter of less than 48 hours, and based on everything we’ve seen so far, you have a reason to be excited. Not only is the show more in tough with its comic-book roots, but you’ve also got some better writing, cooler characters, and the return of some old favorites.
One of these such old favorites is Cameron Monaghan, who plays the increasingly-crazy and incredibly-dangerous Jerome. We’re not going to say that he eventually becomes the Joker, but obviously the show does want you to think of the two parties side by side. In speaking about this part to Zap2It, the actor (who you also know from “Shameless”) teases a little bit about his arc for the upcoming episodes, and how the arrival of Theo Galavan in many ways is going to give him the freedom to go on a rampage of sorts:
“He’s a living, ticking time bomb and he meets a man who realizes how to access that and utilize it in a way that’s extremely destructive on a more massive level than what Jerome had previously been … He gets to basically throw a big party for himself, a big murderous party.”
We’re not sure what to make of Jerome moving into the second season. We don’t get the sense per se that he is meant to be a Big Bad, but maybe someone who will turn out and rear his head from time to time. If you are this psychotic, then odds on you’re not going to be able to do what you are doing that long.
