‘Downton Abbey’ season 6, episode 1 video: Are there new issues for Maggie Smith’s Violet?

As anyone who follows “Downton Abbey” knows rather well at this point, the Dowager Countess is not someone you want to cross. She has strong opinions, sure, that are not always easy to agree with, but she also has a sharp tongue and a lot of influence.

So what happens when she and Isobel clash over the handling of a hospital? That is just one of the things that is teased, per the Mirror, in the new sneak peek below for season 6 (premiering on ITV Sunday night). It is nice to see almost right away that Maggie Smith is getting great material things time around; we have admittedly gotten frustrated at times with how the show handles the Violet character, given that she gets so much awards recognition that she really should be given meaty material to work with. Some of our issues were rectified during the fifth season, and we are pleased to see it carrying over effectively.

Also, the sneak peek does tease more of the wedding coming up for Mr. Carson and Mrs. Hughes, which is to us one of the things that we’re looking forward to the most in the final season. Even though these two may be servants in Downton, you are going to see some of the upper-class residents, including Lady Mary, do everything in her power to ensure that they have a ceremony still worth remembering.

We’re going to have more on the season premiere tomorrow; for the most part, let’s just say that it looks very much like there will be a lot to look forward to.
