History orders Craig Ferguson talk show ‘Join or Die’

History Channel

We’ve been wanting to see Craig Ferguson back on television ever since his time as the host on “The Late Late Show” come to a close, but who would’ve thought in a million years that he would be anchoring a talk show on History of all places? It’s a little crazy, but it is happening.

The network has ordered 16 half-hour episodes of a show entitled “Join or Die With Craig Ferguson,” where Craig will sit down with celebrity guests, historians, and others to debate a variety of historical topics. In a statement, Craig had the follow to say:

“I’m a huge fan of History and what they do. I’m delighted to be on their schedule and promise that we will have a lot of fun but we will also stick to the truth.”

For the format, we have no doubt that History has the right host. Craig is a brilliantly-smart guy, and someone who can bring a great perspective to things and make them to the average viewer, even those who are not that well-versed in all things History.

This move does at least continue a tradition by this network to continue to do things, something that we really believe first started to accelerate with “Vikings.” They’ve gotten more into original programming, and are wanting to produce things that are not just unscripted reality shows these days.

Since “The Late Late Show,” Ferguson was at one point rumored to be taking part in a syndicated talk show that would air right before primetime; however, nothing came of it in the end. He also hosts “Celebrity Name Game” in syndication.
