Netflix ‘Jessica Jones’ season 1, episode 12 review: Did Jessica kill Luke Cage?
Only one more episode until the big finale of Netflix new series “Jessica Jones” season 1 and it has been one heck of a journey. We have met some characters we love, some that scare the heck out of us and other we wish didn’t exist in this world at all. One character we have wanted to see more of was Luke Cage and in the last episode we finally saw his return after being gone for many episodes.
Luke reveals to Jessica that he was under Kilgrave’s control when he blew up his own bar with himself in it. He explains that he had been following Jessica in hopes of her leading him to Kilgrave so that he could avenge his wife’s death. Kilgrave force’s Luke into his car and blames Jessica for killing his wife and explains that all he wanted was the video his wife had that exposed his abilities.
So why hasn’t Kilgrave killed his father yet? Because he thinks that his father can help him regain control over Jessica by upping his powers the way he did when he was a child. Jessica and Luke get a lead on the lab that is supplying Kilgrave’s father with the drug and while they are waiting, he tells her that he really understands the situation she was in when she killed his wife and says that he forgives her.
Finally a man that Jessica thinks is the courier for the drugs shows up and leads her on a goose chase that ends with the courier killing himself and no drugs on him. Now that Kilgrave knows just how close Jessica was to finding him, he’s pushing his dad to make him more powerful faster, even though he has already become more powerful as his duration and distances of mind control have improved.
Has it improved enough for him to control Jessica? He meets up with her and tries to control her, but it’s still not working. Kilgrave has another trick up his sleeve and it’s that Luke is still under his mind control (which sucks extra bad because Jessica gave him Kilgrave’s flash drive). Even Luke’s speech about forgiving Jessica for her part in killing his wife was all Kilgrave. He orders Luke to kill Jessica, but after an epic battle Jessica is forced to shoot Luke in the head. Is he actually dead or does his unbreakable skin stop bullets as well?
Is Luke Cage actually dead? We suspect not since there is a Netflix “Luke Cage” series due out next year, but it certainly left us with the best cliffhanger of season 1. We didn’t think it was going to be that easy for Jessica to get forgiveness from Luke or that Kilgrave was going to let Luke go that easily after getting his hand on the man that had Jessica after him. Kilgrave’s ego is too big to let that happen. This is going to be one heck of a final show down! Episode grade: B +. Luke Cage without his shirt on: A+
