‘MasterChef’ season 6, episode 18 review: Who made it to finale?

MasterChefWe knew that “MasterChef” was going to be intense Wednesday night, mostly because this is the sort of thing that we tend to have almost every season around this time. You’ve got four contestants left, and by the time you make it to the final half-hour, only two are left to compete for a spot in the final three.

We do love it when things are extremely competitive up until the last minute, but we have to say that in this case, it wasn’t. We knew right around 8:50 p.m. Eastern time that Claudia was going to be advancing to the final three over Nick in the last cake-making Pressure Test. While he had arguably the more beautiful cake, just some simple measurement errors were enough to send him over. Claudia, Derrick, and Stephen are now left to fight for the title.

It’s hard to really be that sad over Nick leaving, mostly because he wasn’t sad. He made it extremely far this season, and seemed to be a really nice, classy guy upon his exit. While winning this show is great for publicity, we really don’t think it defines what you do for the rest of your career. He still has a really wide array of possibilities ahead for his career, and it is really all about just how he decides to take advantage of what is ahead of him.

Even for a predictable end, “MasterChef” does continue deliver a solid season, mostly because we do like everyone remaining and we feel like this isn’t going to be one of those times you can question the winner when it is over. Grade: B.
