‘Criminal Minds’ season 10, episode 8 review: Kate profiles Morgan as difficult case unfolds
One of the things that we love about “Criminal Minds” is the way that after 10 seasons they can still find ways to surprise us. This is something that is really difficult to do on a procedural show that has been around this long and is competing with many other shows just like it, but the thing that stands out about “Criminal Minds” is that they can take an idea that has been done many times over on other shows and find a way to make it fresh, disturbing and leaving us not really knowing who we are supposed to be rooting for.
Tonight’s episode was one of these great mind bender stories as we saw a defense lawyer get kidnapped by two angry young men. Of course we found ourselves worried for this lawyer, until it’s revealed that these two young men were victims of his sexual abuse. They flipped the program on us so suddenly that we didn’t know who we were supposed to root for, who’s the victim, who’s the villain and what our team is going to do when they figure this situation out completely. They lawyer eventually saw justice as another one of his victims, Brian, shot him to death, but the twist here was that Brian had started on the same path that the lawyer was on.
It was interesting to see just how good a profiler Kate is as she figured out that Morgan had dealt with a similar situation in his past to what happened in the case of the week. We knew she was going to be a great fit for the team and now we are even more sure of it. Episode grade: B
