‘Switched at Birth’ season 4, episode 13 reaction: Are Toby and Lily keeping the baby?

There were a variety of stories that were notable on Monday night’s new “Switched at Birth” episode, but there is one that struck us perhaps more than ever: Bay’s decision to tell Toby that she wants Lily to, more or less, abort their child.

Is not having the child something that Toby has thought about himself this summer? Certainly it has, but there is a key decision between him, who is directly involved in the situation, saying it and another family member chiming in who really has no say at all. Within this moment, we were of course disappointed in Bay for saying something like this … but at the same exact time, this is what makes the show so strong and different from the typical teen / young-adult fluff out there. People say things that they will regret, and no one is presented as perfect.

In the end, we do think that Bay will come around (she may be already, judging from the end), and she better given that Toby and Lily made the decision to keep the baby. This is a sign that those around her are growing up, and that may not be something that she is willing to accept so easily. Hopefully, she is going to start to more and more over time.

This story is a chance for “Switched at Birth” to take another big step, and when it comes to Bay and also Daphne (who is dealing with their own problems), they will have to figure out their feelings more and more over time.
