‘Call the Midwife,’ ‘Person of Interest,’ ‘Madam Secretary,’ more coming to Netflix in September
If you are a Netflix subscriber, September is a great month in order to remind yourselves that there are some really good shows on the service that are not even originals to them. There’s obviously “Longmire” coming up on September 10, but in this article we want to give you some insight into some of the other great shows that are going to be uploading their most-recent seasons this month.
Take, for example, today, as “Madam Secretary” season 1 is now available! It’s a smart series starring Tea Leoni that you may not have seen thanks to heavy Sunday-night competition. It is premiering on CBS in early October, so there is time for you to catch up on there.
As for some other notable releases…
September 14 – “Call the Midwife” season 4. It’s not for everyone, but if you love British drama there are few shows better.
September 16 (Update: it is on Netflix now)– “The Blacklist” season 2. There are definitely some messy parts of this season, but it does start to get really good and crazy near the end.
September 21 – “Gotham” season 1. We can say almost exactly the same thing here as with “The Blacklist.” Interestingly, it’s on Netflix the same day season 2 premieres. Why not give newbies a chance to binge first?
September 22 – “Person of Interest” season 4. The first three seasons were added at the start of the month, and you’ve got time to catch up until the show returns early next year.
September 25 – “Hawaii Five-0” and “Blue Bloods” season 5. Once again, shows hitting Netflix the same day as their new seasons premiere.

The addition to Netflix of Madam Secretary S1 seems somewhat unusual. Typically, a CBS show that’s owned by the network doesn’t get to a subscriber service so soon. It took much longer for Blue Bloods, Hawaii Five-0, TGW, POI and others to make their ways to Netflix. Ditto for Elementary on Hulu. Madam Secretary’s appearance immediately following its first season is rapid, by comparison. Any idea why?
