‘Mistresses’ season 4 spoilers: Will Jennifer Esposito return … if the show does?
At the end of the “Mistresses” season finale on Thursday night, we saw what had to be one of the crazier endings that the show has conjured up … and this is a pretty crazy show. (Of course, there are SPOILERS ahead from the finale, so stop reading here if you want to remain in the dark.)
As it turns out, it was Wilson all along who was responsible for the death of Luca, and in the closing minutes we saw him (while wearing some of Calista’s clothing, no less) pointing a gun right at Joss, who was starting to figure things out. If the show returns for a fourth season, the writers are going to have to figure out how to handle this; then, they also have to figure out whether or not Jennifer Esposito is going to return. Presumably, getting Wilson behind bars could mean her release, but the producers don’t seem to be committing yet to getting more of the fashion maven.
Speaking to TVLine in a finale postmortem article, executive producer Rina Mimoun made it fairly clear that the intention was apparently to never have Calista be a permanent addition to the show full time, which is something that we always assumed:
“We would love to invite Jennifer back for as many episodes as she’s willing or able to do, but this was a one-year character for us — at the level she’s playing this year. I mean, we were blown away by her performance, and she brings a certain sparkle, but if we’re lucky enough to get a fourth season, we might just want to find a whole different woman to inject into our foursome. We don’t want to start with so much baggage for all the other women to get through.”
It is true that the series does have a whole lot of drama that they’d have to wade through, like justifying Calista being a part of a group when she previously sold out Joss to get her locked up … even if she did come around later. It would take a lot to suddenly make that okay.
If the show returns (which is far from certain at this point), do you want more Calista? Share now in the comments, and head over here to get some other news on the finale! Also, sign up here to gather some more TV scoop via email, courtesy of our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: ABC.)

Keep Calista, she is a strong addition. Why can’t we try and save her from suicide. Joss would never be the same, if it ended like that. We love Joss!!
