MTV’s ‘Scream’ season 2 spoilers: Premiere date speculation and more for MTV series
Tonight, MTV is airing the season finale of their adaptation of “Scream,” and there is still no avoiding the strange, awkward timing of it all given Wes Craven’s passing over the weekend.
We do think that he would want the show to go on, though, based on how he kept his private life just yet, and the show is going to go on here even after this big episode. It was revealed earlier this summer that the network had ordered a second season of the series, which is going to be interesting for some many different reasons.
For one, do you come back and tell a story using the same characters? Obviously, the original “Scream” movie franchise from Craven did choose to do this for many years, and it was a bold, interesting choice. The risk that you run here, though, is that eventually it starts to get to the point where you think it is impossible that this many terrible things can happen to a single group of people. That’s what is so rough from time to time with “Pretty Little Liars,” who drug on the same story for so long that when “A” was finally revealed, it was impossible to connect almost every dot in a way that made complete sense. (We do still think that they did a decent job for the most part.)
We’ll hopefully get a sense of what “Scream” season 2 could be like in some finale postmortem articles or chatter throughout the next year … which is probably close to how long we are going to be waiting. The second season is not going to premiere on the network most likely until either late June or July, as it really makes for a good summer show. Sure, the horror component is great for Halloween, but there’s enough similar programming around that time.
