MTV’s ‘Scream’ finale spoilers: Watch new sneak peek; exec reacts to Wes Craven’s death

It does admittedly feel very strange even writing about the “Scream” finale on this particular day, given that it is just around 24 hours after the news was starting to come out about the death of horror giant Wes Craven. Without him, there is no “Scream,” and the genre would not be what it is today. We do have a sneak peek below for the finale that is very much in the spirit of the show, so if you want to check that out, take a look. It should have you ready to see what the writers and producers have up their sleeve.

Insofar as honoring the man who started it all on the finale, it’s obviously far too late to do anything with most of the footage; however, executive producer Jill Blotevogel tells TVLine that there are some plans being sorted out right now to honor him in some way:

“It feels pretty natural [to honor him]. The Scream finale would be nothing, it wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for Wes … I’m sure there will be a moment-of-silence element to it. I’m not sure exactly what form it will take yet.

“… Everyone on the show is kind of stunned. We were sucker-punched, and I know the world feels the same way, because he didn’t make his health issues public. I’m still a little sad.”

Craven served as an executive-producer on the show, so the project did have his stamp of approval on it. It will also go on without him, as it has been renewed for a second season. We didn’t know Craven and therefore don’t want to make too many judgments, but based on how he kept his health problems quiet, we do feel like he would want the show to go on without him, and for the property to be as scary an entertaining as ever.
