‘Falling Skies’ series finale reaction: Does death conquer the 2nd Mass?
Tonight, “Falling Skies” came to a close on TNT after five seasons on the air, and there was certainly a final battle like nobody’s business. There was a queen, there were explosions, there were deaths, and there were even … people being back from the dead?
Not exactly, but we really cannot say that we were altogether shocked with the reveal that Pope was still alive. the “death” of him last week did not feel like a proper way at all to service this character. Then again, was tonight really, either? The man showed up, only to die a mere matter of minutes later.
The story ended tonight, after a final battle that Tom did manage to survive, with a flash-forward to the future. Can’t really say we are too surprised by that. The whole finale was a little bit all over the place, and we still don’t think the show was ready to end just yet. There needed to be some more time focusing on some things that really didn’t make such sense … such as the fact that Anne was ALSO still alive in the future.
We’re not going to go so far as to say that the final battle with the Espheni tonight was a disaster, but it did in the end feel extremely rushed and really didn’t give you the sort of epic feel you were probably hoping for. Noah Wyle was great and we do love a few good Tom speeches; but while the battle was won for the 2nd Mass, didn’t you think that it would be a little more worthy of the show’s five-year run than something like this? We know that expectations are sometimes too high for series finales, but this was still a mess.
Now, we turn this over to you: What did you think of the “Falling Skies” series finale?
