2015 MTV VMAs: Kanye West honored by Taylor Swift; will run for President?
This year definitely seems to be the year for Taylor Swift surprising us by spending time with people she’s had internet beef with. At the beginning of the MTV Video Music Awards, we saw the “Bad Blood” singer join Nicki Minaj for a surprise performance on stage. Then, as we started to get closer to the end of the show, she was the one to present Kanye West with the prestigious Video Vanguard Award.
As you may remember, Taylor and Kanye were a part of one of the most-infamous VMA moments in the history of the awards show, as he snatched the mic from her during an acceptance speech to proclaim that Beyonce had “one of the best videos of all time.” You probably remember it.
Taylor, in her speech before handing Kanye his trophy to mass applause, did reference the incident, but also praised Kanye as one of the greatest artists of all time, and said that his debut album was the first she ever purchased on iTunes.
Kanye’s speech was long-winded, confusing (as you would expect), but we do think there was a point to all of it: Stop putting your stock in awards, and start putting it in ideas. Those are the things that will really get you somewhere. For the most part, most of this speech was just entertainment and Kanye being Kanye … until he announced he was running for President in 2020. What was that about? We’re not sure, but you can vote on it in the poll below.
