ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 8 spoilers: Explaining more of missing time for Nathan Fillion’s Rick

We know that throughout most of “Castle” season 7, one of the long-lingering mysteries was trying to figure out what happened to Richard Castle that led to his disappearance. While there were some answers that came out at one point, we’re not altogether sure in the end that everyone was happy with them. It seemed mostly to be tied to a mission that took place overseas, and it felt like there could have been so much more there than what we received.

Luckily, it does seem now as though there is much more story when it comes to these disappearances that will be told. According to what executive producer Alexi Hawley had to say to Entertainment Weekly, this year the producers “really do want to get into what happened when he was gone in a way that hopefully ties a lot of the threads of mysteries of seven seasons together in an unexpected and exciting way.” This sounds very exciting to us, mostly because there are so many unanswered questions and fun mysteries worthy of being explored.

In addition to Rick’s disappearance, the show will explore such topics early on as Beckett being a Captain, Ryan struggling with finding the means to support his family, and a new dynamic in Castle’s life caused by his daughter Alexis becoming more of a young woman. There are a lot of different events happening, and he will have to get used to a whole lot of change rather quickly.

The new season of “Castle” officially begins on Monday, September 21. We’ll have further updates soon enough!
