‘Beauty and the Beast’ season 3, episode 12 review: A death sets the stage for huge finale
So long as things are done successfully, we are ultimately okay with stories that feel a little bit predictable. That is what we had in part with Thursday night’s new episode of “Beauty of the Beast.”
Almost from the very moment that Catherine’s father became involved in trying to slow down Liam once and for all, it felt obvious to us that he was not going to make it out of the episode alive. This is just what tends to happen on these shows more often than not, and his death would be one of the ways to propel the story forward and have our leading man and woman even more intent on his destruction.
With Liam also causing the decay of really his entire family, it seems like his endgame is almost set: Securing Rebecca for himself. The problem is that he is disillusioned himself into thinking that Rebecca is Cat, and there is really no way for his plan to therefore work. They now just have to figure out the proper way to stop him, and it is not going to be an easy task. Not only do they have to contend with his powers, but also a police department that is breathing heavily down Cat and Tess’ necks over the way they have not been following the letter of the law with some of their cases.
Now, let’s propel ourselves for a second over to the story of JT, who had a pretty fun moment as he got a chance to complete a slapshot hockey challenge. Who cares if it was all set up by Tess, who was worried about him not being able to fulfill some of his dreams later on in life? He did learn some better news for himself later on in the episode, but like with Cat and Vincent, there is much work to be done before we reach the end.
In the end, “Sins of the Fathers” was a very solid entry that sets up the finale well. We do wish that the death of Catherine’s father was a little less anticlimactic, but given that she was never really that close to a guy who was previously in prison, it was still handled in okay fashion. Grade: B.
