2015 Emmys: Will Jeffrey Tambor, Will Forte, Anthony Anderson win Comedy Actor prize?
We’ve hyped up the competitive nature of many of the categories in our 2015 Emmy series here at CarterMatt so far this summer, but we’re not going to do that every time just for the sake of hyperbole. The honest truth here at the moment is that there’s no real drama in the Outstanding Comedy Actor race. It feels almost assured at this point that we’re going to see someone win over the competition, even though we’re not going to call it a lock completely because crazier things have happened.
Below, take a look at our analysis of the field, and vote for your favorite at the end of the article.
The nominees
Anthony Anderson, “black-ish” (ABC)
Don Cheadle, “House of Lies” (Showtime)
Louis C.K., “Louie” (FX)
Will Forte, “The Last Man on Earth” (Fox)
Matt LeBlanc, “Episodes” (Showtime)
William H. Macy, “Shameless” (Showtime)
Jeffrey Tambor, “Transparent” (Amazon)
Who should win – This is an interesting crop, mostly because you nominated seven people even though the frontrunner is so clearly Tambor. We’re not really going to go against the grain here in this case; if this was an earlier season of “Louie” maybe, but we don’t really think that anyone this year has given a performance with so much heart as what Jeffrey did on this show. We would probably rank Louis C.K. in second place. We don’t even really understand how “Shameless” is a comedy given the new rules.
Who will win – As we said, Tambor. We’ll be surprised if it is really even close. What we will at least take a moment here and do is recognize that we’re glad to see Anderson (a hard-working guy who really just needed a show like this) and Forte (someone always underrated) on the list this year. It’s nice to see new comedies recognized with three nominations in this field this year; sometimes, the Emmys tend to be completely asleep at the wheel in almost everything other than miniseries and dramas.
