‘Suits’ season 5 spoilers: How will Mike shocker impact relationship with Rachel?
While many hours have now passed since the stunning midseason finale of “Suits,” we imagine that you are still reeling. We still are. We knew that sooner or later Mike would have to pay for what he did lying about his credentials for so many years, and perhaps the priest said it best: Mike really couldn’t have his cake and eat it, too. Him resigning was an effort to try and right the wrong, but it doesn’t take away what has already been done.
We’ve already told you that the show will eventually tackle who was the one to reveal Mike’s secret, so for now let’s touch on another facet of this: How it will impact those who are close to him. It’s clear already that Louis, Harvey, and Jessica could all be at risk for what they chose not to disclose, but what about Rachel? This is a woman who Mike had faith in to stand by him at the end of the finale, even if he was not a part of the firm anymore. However, she didn’t realize that he was about to be in handcuffs.
This is an issue that show creator Aaron Korsh discusses in a postmortem with The Hollywood Reporter, and we really love his candor on the subject:
“We’re going to tackle what we think are some of the consequences that this thing would have on their relationship. The whole back six are about what this this is going to do to every single person at the firm. For Mike and Rachel, what is the revelation that Mike was a fraud going to do to them? Her mom and dad are going to find out, so what’s that going to do? What is the reaction going to be like? What kind of toll will that pressure put on their relationship? Obviously it’s this huge thing, and it remains to be seen how they will respond to it. It will give them an opportunity to understand conflict but also to be there for each other. Ultimately, it will have a big impact on their relationship. The truth of the matter is I am not 100 percent sure what the ultimate fate of their relationship in these last six is going to be.”
We have no idea what the future holds for Mike and Rachel and we do want to believe in them, but this is going to be hard on her. It may be in the firm’s best interest to cut her, and all this work could be for naught.
Here’s one novel possibility, though: What if her mother or father already figured out that Mike was lying, and were the ones who turned him in? We’re not ruling them out as possible suspects at the moment.
