‘MasterChef’ season 6, episode 16 review: Who made it to the final five?

MasterChefWe’re now at the final six stage of “MasterChef,” and this is the point in the show where almost anyone can go home at almost any time. Ultimately, tonight really was a battle of who made the biggest mistake in the pressure test after a really intense elimination challenge.

For Derrick, it looked like it was a piece of raw sage that was going to come back to bite him. This is something that was just a casual mistake, and given that the challenge was technically more about the egg and ravioli and the garnish, maybe he could be forgiven. Meanwhile, Katrina had made the mistake of putting in ricotta into her ravioli.

Ultimately, when the dust settled it was actually Hetal who went home! We really didn’t see that coming going into tonight. She was the most dominant vegetarian cook we’ve seen on the competition over the years, and she really had not struggled too much other than a slip-up here and there (including tonight). Still, it’s hard for her to be too upset about her placement in the competition, right?

This was a pretty good episode as a whole, or at least the second part of it was since it really did feel so close for much of the Pressure Test. We really don’t love the cooking team challenges that are like “Hell’s Kitchen,” mostly because we’d really just go watch that show if this is what we wanted to see here. At least we’re down to a final five, and it’s one of the best that we’ve ever seen on the show.
