‘Homeland’ season 5 spoilers: What is coming for Carrie and Quinn?
While there has been an element of romance to “Homeland” for some time, the reality here is that it has never been at the forefront of the season. Even with Brody, we always interpreted his relationship with Carrie as a complication to getting the job done.
With Carrie and Quinn, though, there is some semblance of hope in theory … but whether or not this hope actually manifests itself proper is one of the big stories moving forward. Speaking to TV Guide, showrunner Alex Gansa reveals that the problem for these two characters is that they were simply around “12 hours” off in terms of their timing in season 4. She was ready to admit to feelings, but he was called away for a covert mission and will have spent a significant time away at the start of season 5. When the story picks back up, Carrie will be in a new relationship with a man named Jonas, and will have something away from the CIA that is much more normal:
“She has … been released from a false worldview of herself. Her mother told her at the end of last season, ‘Have a relationship! Your illness isn’t keeping you from that.’ So, we do find her in a very domestic arrangement with a guy, and that gives a whole different flavor to the season.”
Sure, Quinn will eventually surface, and all of his time away in the Middle East will have changed the character dramatically. Is it in a way that pushes him closer to Carrie? That’s something we still have to figure out, but in the early going it doesn’t seem that the show is pushing a romance between the two characters.
