‘Arrow’ season 4 spoilers: Is a Felicity Smoak alter ego coming up?

As you may have heard recently, there are some fun changes coming to the upcoming fourth season of “Arrow” in the realm of giving some characters alter egos. Thea may finally now be the Red Arrow, we’re really not sure what the show wants to do there, and it has already been confirmed that at some point Diggle will have a new nickname while he is out kicking butt and taking names.

So could something similar be coming for a certain Felicity Smoak? It is at least possible, but not something that is in the immediate future. As executive producer Wendy Mericle confirms to TVLine, much of the reasoning for a delay in giving a code-name is simply that she is not in as much need of one (at least for now):

“Dig is out in the field, so there’s a necessity for [him to have one] … But not quite yet for Felicity, although you never know. We all love the idea of her getting her out there more and being a badass. It’s just a question of finding the right way to do it.”

Certainly there are going to be possible ways to give her cool nickname at some point in the future, and this is something that the show will introduce at some point. Really, it is just a question of when. You don’t really want to force it on her just for the sake of doing so; already, there is some debate as to when to give Diggle his official name without it sounding hokey.

“Arrow” will premiere on The CW come Wednesday, October 7 on The CW.
