‘The X-Files’ spoilers: Does finale leave open possibility of season 11?

X Files -Here at CarterMatt, we like to specialize in getting ahead of the game, and while we may be getting a little too far ahead of ourselves here in talking about the future of “The X-Files,” we really cannot help it given that this is a show that is so good.

Are we thrilled that the show is coming back in January? Sure, but nobody is that thrilled right now that the revival is only lasting for six episodes. Everyone wants to see it last a little bit longer than that, since fans have been waiting years for the show to come back. Luckily, there is still a reason for hope…

According to a new report from SpoilerTV, Fox is listing “My Struggle II” as the “season finale” and not the “series finale.” Sure, that may not mean a whole lot, but just this one little word suggests that they are leaving things up in the air in regards to the show’s future. For those wondering, “My Struggle I” is the season 10 premiere, which is airing on January 24 after the NFC Championship Game.

We’d like to see this show sort-of adopt a trajectory similar to another global hit in “Sherlock,” where anytime the cast and crew want to get together and make more episodes, they will. Part of the appeal of coming back to this now may be that David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, and Chris Carter get to go back and play in this world for a little while, but then have some time to go off and do other things. Every season before this one ran for at least 20 episodes; the highest we’d want to see this new version of the show ever go is 13, with our magic number being somewhere along the lines of ten.
