Netflix’s ‘Luke Cage’ series adds Alfre Woodard to the mix
Netflix is not slowing down at all when it comes to getting its roster of Marvel shows on the air. There was “Daredevil” earlier this year, and by the end of 2015 you’re going to get a chance to see “Jessica Jones.”
As for what is coming up after this, think along the lines of “Luke Cage” … and we’ve got some more news now that makes this show (premiering in 2016) all the more interesting. According to Deadline, Alfre Woodard is going to be appearing on the series in the role of Minetta. She is a powerful politician and will make her impact very much felt on Luke Cage (Mike Colter) at some point during the show’s first season. It’s possible that she is going to become the show’s version of the villain Black Mariah, but that is not confirmed and should be taken with a heavy grain of salt.
Viewers are going to have an opportunity to see some of the Luke Cage character for the first time this fall on Netflix, as he will be making at least some sort of appearance on “Jessica Jones.”
Of course, we are excited to see how Netflix handles this series; they’ve already done a great job with “Daredevil” offering up some redemption for a character who was never done correctly on the big screen. There was at one point a Luke Cage movie in development, but it never made it to the big screen and the rights eventually went back to Marvel … therefore making this movie possible to begin with.
We’ll have more on “Luke Cage” and some other projects as time passes.
