‘Masters of Sex’ season 3, episode 7 preview: Virginia chats with Dan Logan

We are now past the halfway point on “Masters of Sex” season 3, and going into Sunday night’s episode there is pretty clearly one big question worth asking: How long is the current course of events going to last? Can Bill and Virginia continue to balance out complicated personal lives and also their work? It feels like sooner or later, we’re going to see something give, and the question is just when and how that goes down.

One of the complicates for Virginia right now is her affair with Dan Logan. We feel like she is intrigued for the most part by his success and his personality, but of course you do get the sense that he wants her all to himself … and that’s not really possible. There’s the whole “married” part of the equation for one, but then everything else that he also has going on.

In some ways, we’re not sure that the Dan character would be working nearly as well if he was played by anyone other than Josh Charles. It’s hard to continue to add so many new people to the show given that the focus in our mind has really always been on Bill, Virginia, and their relationship surrounded by so many other variables. Yet, his charisma really makes it work, and we presume that we’ll be seeing a decent more of him throughout the season.
